Castleton Commodities International

Castleton Commodities International is a commodities trading firm that specializes in the energy markets. Over the summer of 2025, I spent 10 weeks at CCI's London office working as a Front Office Developer. This meant I was positioned on the trading floor, interacting with traders on a daily basis to help deliver tools to assist them.

Over the course of this internship, I worked on the production code base where I helped to develop real-time analytics systems. I focused on optimizing data ingestion, ensuring that the systems could cope with heavy levels of traffic. I also worked on API-driven development when delivering some internal tools to aid the rest of the team. Finally, I helped to build a new analytics platform that extended some of the existing visualization tools that are already in use.

I learnt a huge amount over these 10 weeks, including how to write production standard Python and SQL. I learnt how to think on my feet and fix bugs in real-time, as well as how to properly document my thought process. I also learnt how to communicate my ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences, including traders and project managers.
